ABSTRACT

Six of us (four emergency medical technicians [EMTs] and two ‚re‚ghters) had entered the elevator in response to a medical emergency on the third ®oor of the assisted living complex. My partner pushed the “4” button, and we began to make small talk as the elevator began its ascent. It went up for several seconds, shook for a second, and suddenly stopped. The elevator car shuddered, and there was a momentary feeling of weightlessness.
