ABSTRACT

During early growth, attention has mainly been focused on body size development and much less on the functioning of the organism, which may be more important. New standardization was introduced, enabling the use of functional testing and comparisons between groups and/or along various periods of growth, and its larger application is considered for future studies. This was apparent especially when considering the effect of different types of nutrition and PA. Actual and delayed consequences of early dietary intake and PA regimen levels manifested during later life have been considered in greater detail only more recently, and studies on PA and related energy expenditure (EE) and nutrition in this respect are rarer.
