ABSTRACT
Once the samples have been gathered, they are usually sent to the laboratory for analysis. How well the laboratory does its work, from sample intake and tracking through the analysis and reporting process, has a major impact on the quality of the resulting data. This chapter discusses the procedures carried out by the laboratory, and some of the major laboratory analytical techniques. A basic understanding of this information can be useful in working effectively with the data that the laboratory generates.
