SMMs can be applied to control or tune many technical parameters in smart material systems. Shape memory material is a type of smart material whose properties can be changed in a controlled fashion by external stimuli. Shape, position, strain, stiffness, damping, friction, vapor permeability, and surface tension are some examples that can be manipulated through smart material systems using SMMs.
