ABSTRACT

The word “simulation” can invoke many different images. Wind tunnels provide a physical simulation environment for testing the aerodynamic properties of wings and cars. Water tunnels also provide a physical simulation environment for testing the hydraulic and acoustical properties of submerged vehicles. Pilots train in flight simulators. There are Monte Carlo simulation methods that allow for statistical analysis of many trials of mathematical equations. Computer models allow simulation of electrical circuits during their design to ensure completeness. In the foundry industry, there is mold solidification simulation software, which allows analysis of how the molten metal will solidify for a particular mold design.
