ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the importance of empathy to the understanding and application of ergonomic principles. The potential challenges of developing ergonomic and empathic skills in design students are discussed. Teaching methods that are employed within the Industrial Design department at Coventry University, and which are more broadly applicable to the design industry as pragmatic research and evaluation techniques, are described.
