ABSTRACT

At the Nielsen/Norman User Experience event in 2004, Donald Norman spoke about adding pleasure and fun to interface design. After his presentation, someone in the audience asked why nobody had managed to develop a digital audio player for a Microsoft platform to rival Apple's success with the iPod. In his reply, Norman indicated that, in his opinion, only a small number of companies were in a position to pull off such a feat; one of them was Philips. This chapter provides a glimpse of how Philips answered this challenge.
