ABSTRACT

Starting from the well-structured Markovian models such as M/M/1 or in general the models arising out of birth-death processes in Chapter 2, we move away to partially Markovian models such as M/G/1 and G/M/1 in Chapters 3 and 5, and finally intend to consider in this chapter a general model G/G/1 which covers all earlier models. While in the process of transition, the Markovian nature in the structure of the models is dropped off gradually, the study of the characteristics is done through the imbedded Markov chain technique in which, paradoxically enough, we cling to the Markovian property that is being exhibited at regeneration points.
