ABSTRACT

As the title suggests, this chapter consists of two topics, namely, statistical inference and simulation. Seemingly they are disjoint, but soon we may see that it is not so.

Invariably in all theoretical developments, model assumptions are made, such as the interarrival times are i.i.d. exponential(λ) variables. It is necessary to check the validity of exponentiality and to estimate λ, if unknown. This brings us to the field of statistical inference which is the theme of Section 5.2.
