ABSTRACT

I. Introduction There are estimated to be 1.5 million species of fungi (1). Indeed, fungi represent an entire kingdom in the living world. Infections due to species within this kingdom are many and varied. However, for the purpose of this chapter, the focus will be on the pulmonary manifestations of fungal infections caused by the most common fungal species. The discussion is limited to the infections and only briefly mentions the allergic diseases such as allergic bronchopulmonary mycosis and allergic fungal sinusitis.
