ABSTRACT
Data describing positions, attributes, and relationships of features in space are termed spatial data. Events throughout history document the role of spatial data in infl uencing the outcome of key events. Almost any planning activity, movement of people, vacation travel, exploration, military campaign, or real-estate transaction relies upon spatial data. Some of these activities form the cornerstones of our current economic systems.
