ABSTRACT

Identification of bacterial consorms requires three levels of investigation. The first is determining significant biological activities. This addressed biochemically via exploratory determination of ATP activity (Chapter 8). The second is qualitatively examination of the bacterial consorm. The use of the RASI S43020-MIDI protocol designed for mesotrophic aerobic heterotrophic bacteria was discussed in Chapter 8. This chapter defines the third and final phase: use of the Biological Activity Reaction Test (BART™) cultural technique to achieve a quantitative and more qualitative understanding of active communities within a sampled consorm.
