ABSTRACT
Bullets to Remember All DMC decisions are advisory to the sponsor. The DMC must make safety decisions without knowledge of efficacy. Statistical significance is neither a necessary nor sufficient condition for the
DMC to take action. When an SAE of concern is found, the DMC may unmask, recommend that
the sponsor issue a “Dear Investigator” letter, modify informed consent and/or protocol, or terminate the trial.
