ABSTRACT
Mirror is of a simpler configuration than toroidal systems. The attainment of absolute minimum-B configurations is possible with mirror systems, whereas only average minimum-B configurations can be realized in toroidal systems. Although absolute minimum-B configurations are MHD stable, the velocity distribution of the plasma becomes non-Maxwellian due to end losses, and the plasma will be prone to velocity-space instabilities.
