ABSTRACT
Ionomers (Figure 21.2) are derived from acid copolymers by partial neutralization of the carboxyl group with either sodium or zinc ions. Because the neutralization reaction results in a substantial increase in melt viscosity, it is commonly referred to as ionic cross-linking.
