ABSTRACT

The electric motors consume a signiŽcant amount of electricity in the industrial and tertiary sectors.Intoday’shighlycompetitiveglobalmotormarket, thedemandsforhigher motorrates, higherefŽciency, lowercosts, andincreased reliability are fuelingtheneedfor increased automationandcontrol products withreduced energy consumptionandcarbon emissions.Manymotormanufacturers havecommittedtodeveloptheirnext-generation products forcapturingthemaximummarketshare andboostingproŽt margins. Forthese purposes, motormanufacturers notonlyfullyutilizetheirowntechnicalresources but alsostrengthen thecooperationwithuniversitiesandresearch institutionsforimplementingtechnologicalbreakthrough. However, there are stillavarietyofchallengesthatmotor manufacturers havetoface, forexample, howtoshortentheproduct developmentcycle time, howtoapplynewtechnologiesinbothexistingandnewproducts, howtodifferentiatetheirproducts andadapttoglobalmarkets, andhowtoeffectively reduce theproduction costs. All these challenges must be appropriately considered and addressed to ensure successful outcomes.
