ABSTRACT

Intensive chemotherapy and=or radiation therapy followed by bone marrow transplantation are associated with many potential complications, including regimen-related toxicities, infections due to neutropenia or post-transplant immunodeficiency, bleeding due to thrombocytopenia, and in the allogeneic setting transplant rejection and GVHD. The transplant-related mortality rate in autologous and allogeneic transplants is about 5-10% and 10-15%, respectively.
