ABSTRACT

This chapter is a continuation of Chapter 2 on job submission and focuses on scheduling jobs. The chapter starts with job schedulers that schedule jobs across compute resources in a cluster at one location. Job schedulers were developed for this purpose prior to Grid computing. A Grid computing environment still uses such schedulers for local job scheduling, but in addition has further requirements of scheduling jobs across distributed sites and scheduling multiple simultaneous resources to bring to bear on a problem. Later in the chapter, meta-schedulers that schedule jobs across distributed sites are explored.
