ABSTRACT

Many sampling situations can be generalized to the extent that specific functions have proved useful in computing the probabilities associated with the operating characteristic curve and other sampling characteristics. These are functions of a random variable X which take on specific values x at random with a

probability evaluated by the function. Such functions are of two types:

Frequency function. Gives the relative frequency (or density) for a specific value of the random variable X. It is represented by the function f(x).
