ABSTRACT

Project integration management specifi es how the various parts of a project come together to make up the complete project. This knowledge area recognizes the importance of linking several aspects of a project into an integrated whole. The Henry Ford quote at the beginning of this chapter emphasizes the importance of “togetherness” in any project environment. Project integration management area includes the processes and activities needed to identify, defi ne, combine, unify, and coordinate the various processes and project activities. The traditional concepts of systems analysis are applicable to project processes. The defi nition of a project system and its components refers to the collection of interrelated elements organized for the purpose of achieving a common goal. The elements are organized to work synergistically together to generate a unifi ed output that is greater than the sum of the individual outputs of the components. The harmony of project integration is evident in the characteristic symbol that this book uses to denote this area of project management knowledge.
