ABSTRACT

The first rule is that safety professionals are responsible for their own criminal acts inside and outside of the workplace. If the act performed by the safety professional is in violation of a criminal law, the individual safety professional may be the responsible party. If the company or organization is responsible for the criminal act, then the company, the officers, or the board of directors may be responsible for the crime. Safety professionals should be aware that outside of their official duties, they are not immune from the committing of criminal acts. Safety professionals, working within the scope of their jobs, may be protected by the company or organization.
