ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the analytical methods used to characterize the chaotic behaviors observed in semiconductors. Self-similarity or fractal structure is one of the most important concepts in chaos theory. Fractal dimensions and fractal sets are introduced in section 6.1. In order to characterize the sensitive dependence of the chaotic orbits on the initial conditions, analysis using the Lyapunov spectrum is given in section 6.2. The global structure of the fractal sets can be found by the fðÞ spectrum in section 6.3. Circle-map behaviors are described in section 6.4.
