ABSTRACT

The personal communications service (PCS) that began in the mid-1990s is based on low earth orbiting (LEO) satellites. It is a high-frequency, low-power, standardsbased, wireless mobile communication system. It mainly operates within the range of 1800 to 1900 MHz. The principal technology base for the PCS comes from wireless analog cellular, the emerging and almost well-established digital wireless cellular systems. It has also evolved from the global systems for mobile communications (GSM) networks. The implementation of the PCS is based on the interconnection of various functional components that are operating in accordance with developed standards so that interoperability and reliability of the systems can be achieved.
