ABSTRACT
Secrecy and authentication are two fundamental aspects of information security. Secrecy provides protection for sensitive messages against eavesdropping by an unauthorized person, while authentication provides protection for messages against impersonating and tampering by an active deceiver. Secrecy and authentication are two independent concepts. It is possible that only secrecy, or only authentication, or both are concerned in an information system.
