ABSTRACT

The tools and techniques discussed in this chapter and throughout this book can be classified in a variety of ways. One way to look at them is as data transformers. Data transformers have been subclassified by their potential application as being either descriptive tools and techniques or diagnostic tools and techniques. A second way to consider the complete collection of tools and techniques is known as targeted objectives, which have been subclassified as being either analytical or prescriptive. Figure 13.1 presents a graphic summary of these classifications.
