ABSTRACT

A. BIOMECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE CORNEA The elastic properties of any material are described by the relationship between the applied stress, or force per unit cross section, and the resultant strain, or relative deformation. The proportionality factor, Young’s modulus (Y), is expressed in units of newtons per square meter (N/m2). The smaller the value of Y, the more elastic is the material-that is, the less it deforms with stress.
