ABSTRACT

A decade after the initial LASIK-related journal report publication (1), more than 370 published LASIK articles (to August 2000) have appeared in peer-reviewed publications. Of particular interest are LASIK flap complications. In this chapter we summarize the information obtained through an Advanced PubMed (National Library of Medicine) search for all articles reporting on LASIK flap complications as well as their management. The literature was searched using Advanced PubMed (under key words “LASIK” or “laser assisted in situ keratomileusis”) and using citations from the articles obtained (2-38). All abstracts presenting a flap complication were incorporated in the review. We have also included information gathered from selected presentations at scientific meetings, from personal communications with other surgeons, and from our own personal experience.
