ABSTRACT

This chapter describes power moment problem of the generalized Stieltjes type with respect to the novel application of quantum mechanical methods to signal processing across a range of interdisciplinary research fields. It introduces the Stieltjes integral as the complex Hilbert transform. The ‘power moment problem’, which is most frequently used in statistics and the theory of probability, is defined as: given the set of power moments, the task is to find the building constituents. Hence, the previously analysed ‘harmonic inversion’ coincides precisely with the definition of the power moment problem.
