ABSTRACT

Early detection of bacterial infection and prompt and adequate antibiosis in the Šrst few hours of infection are the crucial steps for an effective sepsis therapy.8-10 Epidemiological data conŠrm that a doubling of mortality is the consequence of inadequate therapy,11 and an increase of mortality of more than ~7% per hour is proven in cases of delayed adequate (directed) antibiotic treatment, irrespective of the causative pathogen.12
