ABSTRACT
In many other domains, training focused on SA would also be highly bene”cial. In most complex systems, such as aviation or power systems operations, the primary focus of training is on explaining how the individual systems work or on teaching procedures. Operators get very little if any training on how to gather information effectively and interpret it to form SA in an effective manner. They are left to their own devices to ”gure out which cues are the most important and what they mean, and often to develop effective information gathering or search strategies. This leads to signi”cant individual differences in how much SA people will have.
