Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a methodology that can be used to systematically design new products, services, or processes. It embeds the underlying management philosophies, principles, and the Six Sigma stretch goal of the Six Sigma and DMAIC methodology. DFSS focuses on designing a product, service, or process correctly the first time, so less time needs to be spent downstream in improving the product, service, or process. We will discuss DFSS and the Identify, Define, Design, Optimize, Validate (IDDOV) methodology as it relates to service-oriented and transactionbased settings, instead of designing products.
