ABSTRACT

Throughout human history, the main use of technology has involved the transforming of natural resources from the earth into usable physical commodities. Technology, originally concerned with improvement of traditional craft techniques and subsequently with the application of abstract knowledge to practical problem solving, has led societies to a bright and prosperous future. The level of technology development has served as an indication of the general progress of social development. Countries are judged and classifi ed according to their level of technological sophistication. However, although technology was created as a means of promoting the health and welfare of humans, it also has another side, which is a considerable threat not only to human physical and psychological health, but also to the very survival of humanity.
