ABSTRACT

In these lectures we will discuss the physics underlying several techniques for guiding highintensity laser pulses. After a brief discussion of the processes which limit the distance over which a beam of radiation maintains an intensity close to that at its focus, we describe some general principles underlying the operation of waveguides, before discussing in detail how these principles may be applied to guiding intense laser pulses.
