The dynamic fl uid-solid system developed by Mathur and Gishler in 1954, which they named spouted bed, has a wide range of applications for processing coarse particles, such as grains and tablets, which are not easily treated in a fl uidized bed. The equipment consists of a cylindrical column with a conical base fi tted with an orifi ce through which the spouting fl uid is injected.
