An image is a two-dimensional (2-D) or three-dimensional (3-D) reproduction of a form of an object that can be captured by such optical devices as cameras and microscopes. Although the human visual system is very fast in creating and capturing images and very good in making qualitative judgments about image features, it is not suitable

for making a quantitative measurement. In order to quantify image data, a biological imaging system such as human eyes requires assistance from image analysis tools.
