13.1.1 Organic Chemical Hydrides for Hydrogen Storage

Hydrogen is regarded as an ideal energy carrier because of its unique properties such as high effi ciency and pollution free nature. However, to popularize hydrogen energy systems, for example, stationary fuel cells, hydrogen combustion turbines and hydrogenfueled vehicles powered by onboard fuel cells or internal combustion engines (ICEs), various technological issues regarding production, transportation, storage, supply, and safety must be solved. In particular, development of the most suitable material for hydrogen storage and the most effi cient method for absorbing and desorbing hydrogen through the storage material under mild conditions are urgent tasks.
