ABSTRACT

Prognosis of cancer is broadly defined as the estimation of the likely course and future outcome of a cancer patient’s disease and therefore, it is an attempt to predict whether the patient will recover or have a recurrence of the tumor. Many factors affect a cancer patient’s prognosis and overall survival rates. Survival rates are a measure of the percentage of patients with a certain type and stage of cancer who survive the disease for a specific period after the diagnosis. Some of the most important factors that determine the survival rates are the type and location of the cancer as well as the stage and grade. Other features that may also affect the prognosis include the patient’s age, health history, and response to treatment.
