ABSTRACT
George FitzGerald was a brilliant mathematical physicist, who today is known by most scientists as one of the proposers of the FitzGeraldLorentz contraction in the theory of relativity. However, this suggestion by FitzGerald, as we shall see below, was not in the area in which he undertook most of his research, and he would certainly not have rated this his greatest contribution.
