ABSTRACT

The experimental physicist Frederick Thomas Trouton was born on 24 November 1863 in Dublin, the youngest son of Thomas Trouton. He was educated at Dungannon Royal School, before entering Trinity College, Dublin, where he studied both physics and engineering. He had an outstanding undergraduate career and graduated as first Senior Moderator-which was equivalent to the prestigious Cambridge distinction of becoming a wrangler-in experimental science, receiving the degrees of MA and DSc. He was also awarded the large gold medal in his year, a rare distinction for a science student.
