ABSTRACT

The historical data for our proposed work is measured at points on latitudelongitude grids of different resolutions. Historically, land measurements, such as temperature, were available at a spatial resolution of 0.5◦ × 0.5◦, sea surface temperature was available for a 1◦ × 1◦ grid, and sea level temperature was available for a 2.5◦ ×2.5◦ grid. The temporal resolution was 1 month. Depending on the data set, this resulted in time series with lengths ranging from roughly 100 to 500 time steps (each time step corresponds to 1 month). More recently, however, NASA’s EOS has been providing data with a higher spatial and temporal resolution, e.g., 250 m×250 m and every 16 days.
