ABSTRACT

A considerable scientific effort has been produced in the last few decades to expand our knowledge in the field of lung function in newborns and infants delivered prematurely, with and without bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Despite a strong research commitment and the production of large amounts of data, considerable uncertainty still surrounds a number of aspects of lung development after premature birth, and ongoing research continues to seek answers to several unsolved questions (1).
