ABSTRACT
Nutraceuticals, de ned as food supplements and functional foods, currently produced and marketed from microalgal biomass, comprise a rather short range of carotenoids, fatty acids, and wholecell products. A number of substances of microalgal and cyanobacterial origin are currently under development as novel drugs, but these compounds lie outside the de nition of nutraceuticals.
