ABSTRACT

The momentum equation of single-phase flow through porous media based on the linear Darcy’s law in the form −(dp/dz) = (mw/K) or its modified form (for large Re numbers, Re > 0.01) gives

- = +( / ) ( / )dp dz w K wµ βρ 2

where K is the permeability coefficient. The right time to use a = 1/K instead of K, then a and b , can be anticipated

via the viscosity and inertia coefficients of Darcy’s equation, respectively, and they should be determined experimentally for each type of porous structure.
