ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the available fundamental theoretical resources of light-tissue interaction on the basis of optical parameters of both the source and the tissue.

For a scattering-dominated medium, the integrodifferential equation of transport theory can be simplified to the differential equation of diffusion theory. However, diffusion theory cannot provide accurate estimation of the radiance of light near the boundary of the tissue.
