ABSTRACT

The photochemical interaction in vascular welding will be described first.

To speed up the recovery process, tissue closure can often be performed faster, and can be less traumatic by actually welding the fissure together instead of using sutures, or staples, that may need to be removed later on, or with the use of clips. All of the latter mechanical methods of closure make use of foreign bodies, with chances of infections, and rejection, and additionally scarring. Also the sutures may need to be applied in a confined space, leaving much room for extended surgery time, with added risk factors.
