ABSTRACT

The population infected with HIV, consequent to the use of antiretroviral (ARV)

medications, is aging. Questions about cardiovascular disease (CVD) in this

population have prompted inquiry (1-4). Cardiovascular events in HIV-positive

individuals are uncommon and occur in the background of CVD in the general

population. These circumstances have contributed to a number of conflicting

findings in this field of study (5-7).
