The Latin word salarium, from which the word salary is derived, means “of salt” and was the periodic quantity given to Roman soldiers to purchase salt. Romans produced salt in a manner similar to the current process, evaporating seawater in shallow basins by sunlight incidence to crystallize salt. This is a simple history that shows us that crystallization is important to mankind since antiquity.
