ABSTRACT

The human knee joint is composed of four major ligaments, namely, the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the medial collateral ligament (MCL), and the lateral collateral ligament. Of these ligaments, the ACL is the most commonly injured ligament of the knee. The ACL functions primarily to stabilize the knee by helping to resist anterior and posterior dislocations of the tibia and femur, respectively (Cuccurullo 2004).
