Subcritical Excitation

WithAkira Yoshizawa, Sanae-I Itoh, Kimitaka Itoh

A nonlinear theory has been developed for the study of turbulence called submarginal turbulence or subcritical excitation. Such a turbulence has a larger amplitude at a higher gradient and is sometimes sustained under the linearly-stable condition. Figure 21.1 illustrates a schematic relation between the fluctuation amplitude and a driving parameter.
