ABSTRACT

The olfactory system is composed of the olfactory epithelium, the olfactory nerves, the olfactory bulbs, the olfactory tracts, and the median and lateral olfactory striae that terminate in the contralateral hemisphere or the ipsilateral amygdaloid nucleus, septal nuclei, and hypothalamus. A schematic representation of the olfactory pathways and their connections is shown in Figures 24.1 and 24.2.
